STANFORD INT'L: Prosecutors Want 230 Years for Convicted Owner
--------------------------------------------------------------
Trinidad Express reports that U.S. prosecutors have asked that
the convicted fraudster Robert Allen Stanford be given the
maximum penalty of 230 years in prison at his sentencing next
week.
"Robert Allen Stanford is a ruthless predator responsible for one
of the most egregious frauds in history," said the US Justice
Department in documents filed before US District Judge David
Hittner who is to impose the sanction here on June 14, according
to Trinidad Express.
Mr. Stanford, the report notes, has asked that his sentence be
limited to the three years he spent in jail awaiting trial.
The report notes that prosecutors said Mr. Stanford's lawyers
have asked for a prison sentence of 31 to 44 months.
About Stanford International Bank
Domiciled in Antigua, Stanford International Bank Limited --
http://www.stanfordinternationalbank.com/-- is a member of
Stanford Private Wealth Management, a global financial services
network with US$51 billion in deposits and assets under
management or advisement. Stanford Private Wealth Management
serves more than 70,000 clients in 140 countries.
On Feb. 16, 2009, the United States District Court for the
Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division, signed an order
appointing Ralph Janvey as receiver for all the assets and
records of Stanford International Bank, Ltd., Stanford Group
Company, Stanford Capital Management, LLC, Robert Allen Stanford,
James M. Davis and Laura Pendergest-Holt and of all entities they
own or control. The February 16 order, as amended March 12,
2009, directs the Receiver to, among other things, take control
and possession of and to operate the Receivership Estate, and to
perform all acts necessary to conserve, hold, manage and preserve
the value of the Receivership Estate.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, on Feb. 17, charged
before the U.S. District Court in Dallas, Texas, Mr. Stanford and
three of his companies for orchestrating a fraudulent, multi-
billion dollar investment scheme centering on an US$8 billion
Certificate of Deposit program.
A criminal case was pursued against him in June before the U.S.
District Court in Houston, Texas. Mr. Stanford pleaded not
guilty to 21 charges of multi-billion dollar fraud, money-
laundering and obstruction of justice. Assistant Attorney
General Lanny Breuer, as cited by Agence France-Presse News, said
in a 57-page indictment that Mr. Stanford could face up to 250
years in prison if convicted on all charges. Mr. Stanford
surrendered to U.S. authorities after a warrant was issued for
his arrest on the criminal charges.
The criminal case is U.S. v. Stanford, H-09-342, U.S. District
Court, Southern District of Texas (Houston). The civil case is
SEC v. Stanford International Bank, 3:09-cv-00298-N, U.S.
District Court, Northern District of Texas (Dallas).

REDJET: Sends Home Workers, Files for Debt Protection
-----------------------------------------------------
Trinidad Express reports that REDjet (Airone Caribbean/Airone
Ventures Limited) has suspended operations; sent home employees;
and filed for insolvency.
The airline said it had filed with the Supervisor of Insolvency
in Barbados a "notice of intention to make a proposal" to the
company's creditors under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act,
according to Trinidad Express.
Trinidad Express notes that all proceedings against the company
said it will be stayed with regard to debts REDjet owes as of
June 5. The stay will be in place for 30 days initially.
Trinidad Express discloses that REDjet said the trustee will
invite creditors owed BDS$250 and more, including passengers who
have purchased tickets with the airline but who have yet to apply
for a refund, to prove their debts as required by the Act and
also call a meeting of creditors for the purpose of considering
and approving the company's proposal.
Media house Starcom Network reported that the airline informed
94 staff members by letter that it could no longer employ them.
"REDjet profoundly regrets this decision and its impact on its
suppliers, staff and passengers. REDjet believed that it had
secured the full aero-political support of the Barbados
government and authorities; had it gained access to all markets
as a designated national carrier this turn of events could have
been avoided. However, regrettably this has not been the
experience of the airline over the past two years . . . . With
no consensus at a political or technical level to deliver on
these commitments which are critical to the development of any
airline there can be no future for REDjet in Barbados. Therefore,
despite the best efforts of the airline and its staff, REDjet has
been forced to make the regrettable decision to suspend all
operations," the report quoted the company as saying.
As reported in the Troubled Company Reporter-Latin America on
March 26, 2012, RJR News reports that REDjet's decision to
suspend all flights came a day after the airline announced the
addition of its new route to Antigua and Barbuda. REDjet
officials are calling on the Barbadian government for close to
$8,000,000 in assistance, and to receive the same subsidies as
other airlines, RJR News noted. The report disclosed that Mr.
Maharaj said governments cannot continue to expose themselves as
a guarantor to private enterprises.
REDjet (Airone Caribbean/Airone Ventures Limited) is a startup
low-cost carrier (LCC) based at the Grantley Adams International
Airport in Christ Church, Barbados, near Bridgetown.
Incorporated in Barbados, the privately owned airline features a
fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-82 and MD-83 aircraft.

CARIBBEAN AIRLINES: In Danger of Being Downgraded
-------------------------------------------------
RJR News reports that a warning has been issued in Trinidad that
Caribbean Airlines Limited is in danger of being downgraded.
People's National Movement (PNM) Senator Lester Henry told
Trinidad's Upper House of Parliament that the situation at the
debt burdened airline is about to get worse, according to RJR
News. The report relates that Mr. Henry said that the two planes
which are supposed to fly the London route have not been
approved, and there was a possibility the airline could be
downgraded.
RJR News notes that Trinidad's Express newspaper said Mr. Henry
pointed to the financial losses being incurred by Caribbean
Airlines and what he said was the government's irresponsible
management of the airline.
Mr. Henry said the government continues to appoint people who are
not suited to be on the air carrier's board of directors, RJR
News says.
Caribbean Airlines Limited -- http://http://www.caribbean-
airlines.com/ -- provides passenger airline services. It also
specializes in the shipment of fresh cut flowers and packaged
meats, hatching eggs, chocolates, fruits and vegetables, frozen
and chilled fish, vaccines, newspapers, and magazines within the
Caribbean, as well as to North America and Europe.

As reported in the Troubled Company Reporter on March 21, 2012,
RJR News said that Caribbean Airlines Limited owes nearly
US$30 million to Trinidad and Tobago's fuel provider National
Petroleum. Trinidad Express said CAL enjoys a seven-day credit
facility for aviation fuel from the company, according to RJR
News. However, the report related that the airline has not been
able to pay the full amount when invoiced and instead has been
issuing partial payments to sustain the account. RJR News notes
that Trinidad Express reported that the arrears were built up
over the last six weeks as no payments have been made despite an
attractive fuel subsidy which the airline has enjoyed since it
began operations in January 2007.

Monday's edition of the TCR-LA delivers a list of indicative
prices for bond issues that reportedly trade well below par.
Prices are obtained by TCR-LA editors from a variety of outside
sources during the prior week we think are reliable. Those
sources may not, however, be complete or accurate. The Monday
Bond Pricing table is compiled on the Friday prior to
publication. Prices reported are not intended to reflect actual
trades. Prices for actual trades are probably different. Our
objective is to share information, not make markets in publicly
traded securities. Nothing in the TCR-LA constitutes an offer or
solicitation to buy or sell any security of any kind. It is
likely that some entity affiliated with a TCR-LA editor holds
some position in the issuers' public debt and equity securities
about which we report.
Tuesday's edition of the TCR-LA features a list of companies with
insolvent balance sheets obtained by our editors based on the
latest balance sheets publicly available a day prior to
publication. At first glance, this list may look like the
definitive compilation of stocks that are ideal to sell short.
Don't be fooled. Assets, for example, reported at historical
cost net of depreciation may understate the true value of a
firm's assets. A company may establish reserves on its balance
sheet for liabilities that may never materialize. The prices at
which equity securities trade in public market are determined by
more than a balance sheet solvency test.
A list of Meetings, Conferences and Seminars appears in each
Thursday's edition of the TCR-LA. Submissions about insolvency-
related conferences are encouraged. Send announcements to
conferences@bankrupt.com
